Successful Contract Handover in Hatfield

Hatfield handover.

Mears New Homes are delighted to hand over our scheme at Furzen Crescent, Hatfield, Hertfordshire for Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council.

As part of a wider rationalising of estate assets; the council is seeking to meet the increased demand for housing to provide more affordable housing to local people. The former lock-up garage site had become redundant because of changing behaviour, parking requirements and size of vehicles. As a result, the site was underutilised and subject to anti-social behaviour.

The scheme and its sister project at Garden Avenue, Hatfield, forms part of the Council's Affordable Homes Construction Programme and is generating some of the first new homes directly provided by the Council in over 20 years.

This has been a particularly challenging project due to limited site access, party wall matters and site conditions. Notwithstanding these issues, the quality in both design and construction finish has really set the bar for new affordable homes in the borough and our Operations team have been intrinsic in positively engaging the surrounding community throughout the programme.
